| I guess my problem with this CD is that I’m having a difficult time identifying with any of it. I really tried to get on board, but I missed the train and I can’t figure out which direction the band is heading. I’m lost….but I don’t think it’s my fault.
First of all, I’m pretty sure I understand what they are going for as far as sound, but they fell a bit short. I’m not a big fan of the White Stripes, but I feel like they are aiming for the same target audience. The first two tracks, “One Track Mind” and “Intolerable Noise”, I couldn’t even finish listening to out of sheer boredom. Intolerable to say the least. “Lady Luck” was equally forgettable. In fact, I kind of felt as if I was listening to outtakes of American Idol auditions. Those crack me up! Maybe I’m being harsh, but it really wasn’t very good. On a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a 4 because I’m nice. Anyway, I gotta say that when the 4th track “Cob Web Mind” started, I really started to dig the guitar portion of the song. The vocals, however, were weak and overshadowed any potential talent lurking in the background. “Hate Me, Love Me” was okay. The only song I would venture to say I liked. Loved the guitar….guitar is good. The vocalist finally stepped up to the plate with a little variation, thank god. Anytime the Hate/Love card is played in a song, a little emotion should be heard. “Illusion In My Head” sounded like a poor attempt at replicating the Ramones, which should for the record, NEVER EVER be done. Some things are better left alone. I definitely sense a 70’s vibe in “Been Had”, which I can appreciate. A lot of good shit came out of the 70’s. (me included…hahaahaha) I gotta admit, I didn’t listen to the last two tracks. Just couldn’t take it. At one point I actually got creeped out because the vocals began sounding a little like Courtney Love. Strange, right? But, as always, judge for yourself. www.munkeyjuice.net Enjoy. |
